Most AI tools market safety with adjectives — 'robust,' 'reliable,' 'safe.' Bend markets it with a specific, falsifiable word: 'theorem.' A theorem is either true or it isn't, and the word choice itself signals the claim is checkable, not marketing copy.

The Play

Bend didn't market itself as "safer" or "more reliable" for AI-generated code. It made one specific, checkable claim: "Merging a bug is mathematically impossible: it is a theorem."

Most AI tools ask you to trust them. Bend's landing page dares you to try to disprove it — that's the difference between marketing and a claim.

Why this matters

"Theorem" is not a word you can use loosely in front of a technical audience without it being checked. Say your product is "robust" and nobody can prove you wrong, but they also don't believe you. Say a specific outcome is "a theorem" and you've just told a formal-methods-literate reader exactly what would need to be true — and exactly how they could catch you if it weren't. Bend's copy earns that word by explaining the mechanism in the same breath: laws are declared in LAWS.bend, and the type checker (built on the same foundations as Lean and Rocq) enforces them, so no change can merge that violates a declared law.

What this post got right

1. The claim is falsifiable, not just bold

Don't tell your audience your product is safe. Give them a specific, falsifiable claim and show them the mechanism that earns it. Bend's "it is a theorem" is a harder sentence to write than "it's reliable" — and that's exactly why it's a better one.
